Born in 1947 in Jablonec nad Nisou. In 1975 he graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at the Charles University in Prague. In 1976 he became a Doctor of Philosophy and was appointed Professor of Painting. From 1990 to 2011, he headed the New Media Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. He was also a visiting professor at the academies in Aix-en-Provence, Carrara, Ljubljana, Stuttgart, The Hague and Vienna. Miloš Šejn works in the field of visual art, performance and visual perception studies. He leads workshops such as BOHEMIAE Rosa. Šejn’s artistic imagination was shaped during his youth, when he made numerous trips to the wilderness. This experience translated into an inner need to get closer to the mystery of nature and observe the wonders that happen in it. From the early 1960s onwards, he photographed, drew, collected and described his observational activities in nature during his pilgrimages. Šejn’s current interest is in exploring the relationship between nature and art as an inner need of the mind, and focuses on the immediate creative possibilities based in the relationship between historically populated landscapes and untouched nature. He consciously works in the areas of expressive text language, visual interventions, and bodily movement with an overlap into space.
Content
Meeting at a predetermined place in the landscape or cityscape, introduction to Body/Scape techniques, basics of body movement in space, inside/outside perception techniques, body-movement-drawing-word-voice.
Purpose
This collaborative work will allow almost everyone to open up to possibly previously unsuspected qualities of both their own existence and being in space as a whole. Equally, it will allow one to begin to consider the acts usually described as performativity, visual art, word and voice in entirely new contexts. A special emphasis is placed here on the creation of the "work"/narrative through drawing traces. In other words: An integral part of initiation is the discovery of new possibilities for dialogue with oneself and the world. The course of the encounter is performative, but focuses on the process of the creation of a drawing, text or installation.
